2019 On March 13th 2019, Daryl Collins flew to Nepal to undertake a 14 day trek to
Base Camp of Mount Everest, in the Himalayas.
From Tenzing-Hillary Lukla Airport he began a 130km trek, from an altitude of 2500m, to the base camp of Everest, starting point for expeditions to the summit of the highest mountain on the planet.
The trek involved many long days, walking at altitudes with up to 50% less oxygen than at sea level and culminated in reaching base camp before climbing to the summit of Kala Patthar at 5644m.
With online donations and gift aid he raised nearly £5000 for SAMH for people struggling with mental health issues. The cheque presentation was for around £3k at that time.
